The 2009 Relay for Life Washington Wilkes had a kickoff recently at the First
Baptist Church.

Summer Garrison, Relay for Life Staff Partner told us that the main event this
year will be May 1 and 2nd. It will be from 7pm until 7am. Everyone will have
a great time starting with the survivors doing a lap and a luminary ceremony
at 9:00 pm. followed by live entertainment.

The theme this year is Crusin for the Cure. The teams are enthusiastic and
making plans around the theme each has chosen.

Some of the teams have chosen themes such as Cursing in a pink Cadillac,
NASCAR, Casino Cruising, Happy Days Cruising, Love boat Cruising,
Cruising on a fishing pond and Cruising on the river.

Relay for life is a unique opportunity for the community to come together in
the fight against cancer. Garrison tells us that Cathy Lannae, a cancer survivor
of 10 years.Is the coach chairman.

Carol Jackson has been involved from the beginning at Washington Wilkes which had
been for 7 years.

Everyone is affected by this deadly disease so come out and support these
teams.
