Big football games on tap this weekend

The postseason gets under way for the Elbert County Blue Devils, area college teams face big conference showdowns, and the Falcons try to right the ship on this weekend’s football schedule:

• The state Class AA football playoffs begin tonight for Elbert County Blue Devils when they take on the Coosa Eagles tonight at 7:30 in the Granite Bowl. Advance tickets can be purchased today at all Elbert County Schools. • On Saturday, the No. 1-ranked Georgia Bulldogs, featuring Elbert County’s own Mecole Hardman, are on the road at No. 10-ranked Auburn for a big SEC matchup at 3:30 p.m. on CBS or listen online on the TuneIn Radio app.
• The No. 4-ranked Clemson Tigers continue their pursuit of a second straight national championship with a must-win game in Death Valley against Florida State at 3:30 p.m. Saturday on ESPN.
• Georgia Tech seeks an ACC upset when the Yellow Jackets host No. 17-ranked Virginia Tech at 12:20 p.m. on the ACC Network from Bobby Dodd Stadium.
• And the Atlanta Falcons try to get back in the NFL playoff picture when they host the Dallas Cowboys at 4:25 p.m. Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in a nationally featured game on FOX.
