Blue Devils split against Hart County in the Inferno

On Saturday evening the Hart County basketball teams made the short trip down highway 77 to meet Elbert County in non-region play. Even though the games had no bearing on region standings for either team, they provided plenty of excitement, as this rivalry typical does, for the all the fans that packed into the Inferno. In the girls’ varsity game, the Lady Devils tried to overcome their early 74-47 loss to the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Devils made a valiant effort but fell to the Lady Bulldogs 57-42 with Hart County’s Torrion Starks contributing in the neighborhood of 30 points to Hart’s winning cause. In the boys’ game, the Devils and Bulldogs provided a fairly low scoring but very exciting finish to the evening. The Devils were able to overcome the Bulldogs with a 39-37 overtime win. In the win, the Devils showed great discipline and teamwork as they took possession of the ball with approximately 3 minutes to go in overtime and controlled the ball until the last few seconds when AJ James made the game winning shot. Top Devil scorers for the game were Ty Hill with 16 points and AJ James with 11 points. Elbert County travels to Oglethorpe on Friday and host Rabun County in the Inferno on Saturday.
