The Elbert County Board of Commissioners met on Monday evening for a Public hearing on the Fiscal Year 2018 Budget and a hearing on a request from New Hope Church at 1423 Brewers Bridge Road. After hearing comments on the issue the Board ended the public hearing and then went into the regular monthly meeting.
In the regular meeting the board Adopted the minutes of last months regular meeting and agreed to donate $1,000 to the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce for the upcoming fireworks at Russell State Park. The Board also discussed and then voted 4-1 in favor of granting the Permit for New Hope Church based the condition that the planning commission reduce the number of feet for setback for Hunting on the surrounding property and another motion was approved for the Planning Commission to review those setbacks. Approval was also given by the board on a building permit for property adjacent to the Elbert County Airport.
Commissioners also approved a RFP proposal to advertise for bids for stump grinding at the transfer station on Hulme’s Chapel Road.
Commissioners agreed to accept a donation of 2 acres of property from Mrs. Patricia Parson in the Deep Creek Community across from the Deep Creek fire station. The Donation of land will be for a proposed new fire station.
The Board then approved the Public Defenders office budget of 55,374.67 with another motion to advertise to seek bids from attorneys to be the public defender for Elbert County State Court.
The Board then discussed the 2018 Fiscal Year Budget for 2018 which must be approved by the end of June or the county will have to revert to the 2017 budget.
A financial report was then given by Phil Pitts the County’s Chief Financial Officer and then the floor was then opened for public comments, none being brought forward the meeting adjourned.
