Bowman Murder Suspect Has First Hearing

At a hearing before Elbert County Chief Magistrate Judge Lanie Simmons on Friday afternoon at approximately 4pm, Bowman Murder suspect Gregory Robert Roberts was denied bond and charged with the following Crimes:

Murder
Malice Murder
Felony Murder
Aggravated Assault
Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon
Concealing Death of Another

Earlier in the day on Friday Elbert County Sheriff’s Office transported Mr. Roberts to the Elbert County Detention Center from Anderson County South Carolina. This case stems from an incident on Wednesday October 4, 2017, at approximately 1:16 pm, Elbert County Dispatch received a call of an unresponsive female at 826 Beaver Run Ext in Bowman.

The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office along with Elbert County EMS responded to the call and upon entering the residence located a deceased female. The victim has been identified as Ashley Marie Williams, 30 of a Beaver Run address in Bowman.  The Elbert County Coroner was then notified and responded to the scene.

Upon investigation the incident was deemed to be a homicide.
The Elbert County Sheriff’s office then began a search for the suspected offender Gregory Robert Roberts, 47 of a Beaver Run Ext address in Bowman. On Wednesday evening, the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office received confirmation that the Anderson County (SC) Sheriff’s Office had the subject in custody. At that time a murder warrant was obtained for Roberts.

Elbert County Coroner Chuck Almond confirmed that the victims body has been sent to the state crime lab for Autopsy and that the death appears to be the result of a domestic dispute at the couples shared residence in Bowman.
