Chicago Police Officer Shot, Injured

SE Innovation/iStock/Thinkstock(CHICAGO) -- A Chicago police officer was shot and injured Thursday night, police said.

Anthony Guglielmi, communications director for the Chicago Police Department tweeted, "A Chicago police officer has been shot at 18th and Calumet. Shot in the lower body, no info on condition. Transported to area hospital."



The officer was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where police superintendent Eddie Johnson will provide an update on the officer's condition.

The shooting occurred in the city's Near South Side neighborhood.
