Early Voting ends with a strong turnout on final day

Friday was the final day of early voting for Georgia’s primary runoff elections.
In Early voting on Friday the numbers were Democratic votes 26, Republican 74 in office voting and paper ballots were Democratic votes 19 and Republican 49. Total Early voting final numbers were Democratic votes 183, Republican 501 for a total of 684 along with 68 total paper ballots Elbert County’s Early voting totals were 752 votes in the registrars office.

Election Day is this Tuesday, July 24, with polls open countywide from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
On the Republican ballot are statewide runoffs for governor between Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and Secretary of State Brian Kemp; for lieutenant governor between state Rep. Geoff Duncan and state Sen. David Shafer; and for secretary of state between former Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle and state Rep. Brad Raffensberger.
Only one contest is on the Democratic ballot, with Sid Chapman and Elbert County native Otha Thornton seeking the nomination for state school superintendent.
Voters are reminded that if they voted in the May 22 primary, they can only vote in the runoff for the same party’s ballot they chose in the primary. Those who did not vote at all in the primary can vote in either the Democratic or Republican runoff.
