Elbert County Basketball Teams split weekend games

On Saturday afternoon, Elbert County welcomed Rabun County to the Inferno for region competition. The Lady Devils were looking to use the win over Oglethorpe on Friday as a catalyst for a winning streak to finish out the season. The Lady Wildcats brought their typical fast paced, physical style of play that they are well-known for and defeated the Lady Devils 70-51. Lady Devils, Maggie Campbell and Niya Shumaker led the team with 17 and 10 points, respectively. With the loss the Lady Devils go to 4-2 in region and 11-7 overall. In the boys’ game, the Devils tamed the Wildcats with a 73-44 win in a strong defensive effort, in which, the Devils forced 22 turnovers, 15 steals. Leading Devil scorers for the night were AJ James with 22 points, Tay Huff with 13 points and Kobe Goudelock with 11 points. With the win, the Blue Devils improved their record to 6-0 in region play and 16-2 overall. On Tuesday, Elbert County will travel to Monticello, with hopes of calming the Hurricanes as play continues in region 8AA.
