The Elbert County Blue Devils held on to win a high-scoring contest against Crescent High School on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils scored 11 runs on 8 hits but benefited the most from 6 walks as Crescent pushed three runners across the plate by walking batters with the bases loaded in the second inning. A total of five batters were hit by pitchers as well.
Elbert County scored two runs in the first inning, seven runs in the second and one run each in the fifth and sixth innings.
Crescent never gave up despite trailing 9-2 after two innings. The Tigers scored three runs in the third, two in the fourth and two more in the sixth.
With the contest being a non-region game, both coaches chose to allow younger pitchers to get some experience facing live batters, resulting in the high number of walks and runs scored.
Elbert County will next travel to Banks County on Tuesday with both teams tied for the region’s top spot at 5-1. The next broadcast is scheduled for April 4 against Rabun County.
