Elberton Man drowns at Calhoun Falls State Park

A 41-year-old Elberton man died from drowning on Sunday evening at Calhoun Falls State Park, according to a press release from the Abbeville County South Carolina Coroner’s Office.

Juan Manual Pantoja Negrete of Elberton, Georgia, was reportedly swimming in the lake and his family stated he disappeared, Abbeville County Coroner Ronnie Ashley said. The coroner’s office was called at 7:50 p.m.

The family found him in about five feet of water about 30 minutes after seeing him and attempted CPR on him, Ashley said.

An autopsy was performed Monday at AnMed Health and the death was ruled an accidental drowning.
