Franklin County Murder Investigation

In a press release issued Wednesday afternoon by District Attorney Parks White it was reported that during the early afternoon hours of November 22, 2017, members of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Franklin County Coroner’s Office, the Hart County Sheriff s Office. the Lavonia Police Department., the Georgia State Patrol , the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the District Attorney’s Office responded to a call to 222 Misty Mills Road, Lavonia, in reference to an unresponsive 84-year-old woman. who was found dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation concluded that Elizabeth O’Barr, 84-years-old was discovered in her bedroom by relatives, was the victim of foul play, and died as the result of multiple stab wounds to the chest. The-prime suspect , was her son,. Thomas Everett O’Barr, 63, who resided on the same property.  A perimeter was established by responding law enforcement officers, and after a search of the area Thomas, O’ Barr was located a short time later in the woods less than a quarter of a mile from the crime scene. Thomas O’Barr , was deceased, and, by all appearances. took his own. life.

The Georgia Bureau of investigation – Region 11 and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office are in the process of thoroughly documenting the crime scene to ensure that no other parties are involved. At this time it appears that Thomas O ‘Barr acted alone, and there is no reason to believe that the public is at any further risk.
