Kane Brown is "ready" for fatherhood: "I wish I could fast-forward time"

ABC/Image Group LAKane Brown and his wife Katelyn Jae are gearing up for first-time parenthood, which is leading Kane to think about what kind of father he'll be.

The singer revealed to Entertainment Tonight that he'll always be looking out for his baby girl's safety, and won't push her into anything she doesn't want to do -- but he's really hoping she'll be into sports.

"I'm going to be very protective, but I'm going to let her do her own thing," he says. ""I just hope she plays basketball, that's all I want. Basketball or softball, some kind of sport, all I'm hoping for."

As he and Katelyn work to set up the baby's room, Kane admits it's inspired him to look forward to all the precious moments to come.

"I'm ready. I wish I could fast-forward time. We have a nursery. We don't have a crib yet, but we're going to paint it…We've been getting the closet decorated with all of her clothes," he says.

"So I go in there and just look and hold her clothes," he adds. "I'm ready for her little pictures that she draws in school. She's going to get one side of the fridge."

The couple announced in April that they were expecting.
