For the past three years, ACM Group of the Year Old Dominion has spent their summers opening stadiums for Kenny Chesney.
Since Kenny’s No Shoes Nation is made up of some of the most avid fans you could imagine, OD says it’s been a great way to learn how to build a devoted following.
“He really has a special way of really making an emotional connection with his fans during the show,” Brad Tursi observes. “I feel like he really brings people in and makes people feel like he cares about them, and he appreciates how much they care about what he does.”
“And he makes memories,” Trevor Rosen adds. “You feel like all those people are just creating memories, and times they'll never forget.”
Lead singer Matthew Ramsey admits it’s been a great advantage to be able to bond with No Shoes Nation as OD started their career. Now that they’re bona fide stars themselves, they’re finding more folks who’ve come specifically to see the “Hotel Key” hitmakers.
“I think because we've been on tour with him for three years or whatever now… we've won a lot of fans through those years...” Matthew tells ABC Radio. “You can see 'em, you know, with the [Old Dominion] t-shirt on or hat on or something.”
“Luckily, I think we cross over pretty good with his fans,” he explains, “and we're trying to learn from Kenny to build that with our own fans, and really have that kind of connection with them. So, you know, I think it's slowly starting to get there.”
OD plays the Trip Around the Sun Tour with Kenny Thursday in Southhaven, Mississippi on Thursday, before doing a private show on Friday. Saturday, they’re back with Kenny at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
