Man injured in vehicle fire

A 66-year-old Elbert County man suffered burns to his upper body Tuesday afternoon when his car accidentally caught fire outside his residence.

James Allen of a Jones Ferry Road address was making a mechanical repair to his car’s fuel pump at approximately 5:30 p.m. When he started the engine, it caused an explosion and the car was fully engulfed in flames, according to Elbert County Emergency Services Director Chuck Almond.

Elbert County EMS transported Allen directly to the Augusta Burn Center for treatment of his injuries, Almond said.
