Man Reportedly Wrecks Car, accidentally Shooting Himself

WSGC has learned in a Statement from Police Chief Mark Welsh on Sunday 10/01/17 that a man who was camping at at Russell Park over the previous weekend reportedly had items stolen from him by two subjects, The subjects left Russell Park and were chased to the City of Elberton by the Victim.

One of the men involved in the incident has been identified as Jevron Alexander Thomas, of Athens who was found shot in the leg after he drove a car into a utility pole on South Oliver Street during the chase. The crash caused a power outage in the area for approximately 4 hours. Alexander was treated and released from Elbert Memorial Hospital.

The case is under investigation and further charges may be pending against multiple suspects. The case is still under investigation by the Elberton Police Department and the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office.
