Manhunt Underway in Massachusetts for Gunman Who Shot, Killed Cop

WCVB-TV(AUBURN, Mass.) -- A manhunt is underway in Massachusetts for a gunman who shot and killed a 42-year-old police officer early Sunday.

Auburn police officer Ronald Tarentino leaves behind his wife and children after he was fatally shot during a traffic stop around 12:30 a.m. in Auburn, about 50 miles west of Boston, police said.

The shooter fled the scene, police said.

Auburn Police Chief Andrew Sluckis this afternoon called it a "tragic loss," describing Tarentino as a "dedicated and brave public servant."

Sluckis said the investigation into Tarentino's murder is ongoing and declined to release additional information about the gunman at the news conference, but according to a separate bulletin obtained by ABC News, Jorge Zambrano of Worcester is wanted for questioning in connection with the shooting.

The bulletin said Zambrano is considered armed and dangerous.
