The college basketball career of Elberton Mayor Larry Guest has been immortalized by the athletic program of his college alma mater.
Guest was one of nine alumni who were inducted into this year’s class of the South Georgia State College Athletic Hall of Fame during a ceremony Thursday night in Douglas, Ga.
Guest played basketball at South Georgia from 1965 through 1967 and was honored along with other athletes and coaches whose accomplishments were worthy of enshrinement in the Hall of Fame.
“It was a really good time,” Guest said. “We had a nice dinner, we had the president who was just sworn in not long ago as president of the college, Dr. Sellers, she was there. It was quite a ceremony. They had a reception certainly beforehand, and we just got to see a lot of folks that we knew.”
Also among the nine inductees was former Elberton resident Ron Kelley, who played football at South Georgia under the legendary Bobby Bowden from 1954 through 1956 and now lives in Savannah.
