Millage Rate Public Hearing Wednesday

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 4.25 % in the unincorporated portion of the county and 4.36% in the incorporated portion of the county.

All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this tax increase. Two of which will be held Wednesday at 12 noon and 6pm at the County Government Complex.

This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 11.976 mills in the incorporated and unincorporated portions of the county. The proposed increase over the rollback rate will be 0.500 mills in the incorporated portions of the county and 0.488 mills in the unincorporated portions of the county. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 10.488 mills in the unincorporated portion of the county and 10.476 mills in the incorporated portion of the county,

The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $100,000 is approximately $19.20 in the unincorporated portion of the county and $20.00 in the incorporated portion of the county. The proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $50,000 is approximately $9.76 in the incorporated portion of the county and $10.00 in the incorporated portion of the county.
