Mrs. Bessie Champion White Mize, 97, of Laurel Drive, Hartwell, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Hart Care Center.
Born on September 6, 1921 in Ashburn, GA, she was the daughter of the late Jim Champion and Ella Davis Champion. Mrs. Mize was owner/operator of B & J Ceramics and bookkeeper for Frank White Plumbing & Heating Co. and Joe Mize Plumbing & Electrical. She also was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwell.
Survivors include two daughters: Joyce Mann of Sautee-Nacoochee and formerly of Elberton, Jo Beth Sewell of Hartwell, two sons: John A. White of Carrollton, Frank S. “Chip” White of Toccoa; six grandchildren: Frank Turner, Drew White, Nathan White, Abby Stein, Paul Sewell and Joseph Sewell and nine great grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Mize was preceded in death by her first husband: Frank White; her second husband: Joe Mize; two sisters: Oveda Gill, Jennie Rouse; four brothers: Clarence Champion, Clyde Champion, Elzie Champion, Raleigh Champion; and one grandchild: Chris Turner.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Dr. Hugh Kirby officiating. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday morning prior to the service. Flowers optional, memorials may be made to Gideon’s International Hart Co Camp, P.O. Box 59, Hartwell, GA 30643
