Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Dean Putnam King, affectionately known as Grandma, age 90, of 2361 Pleasant Grove Road, Bowman, Georgia died Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.
Mrs. King was born in Cliffside, North Carolina on September 23, 1928. She is the daughter of the late Leon David Putnam and the late Lillian Lucille Padgett Putnam of Charlotte, North Carolina. Mrs. King lived the majority of her life in Atlanta, Georgia and moved to Bowman in 2006.
Mrs. King was a member of the Bowman United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker who was known by her clever sense of humor, decorating ability, wrapping beautiful presents, making silk floral arrangements, shopping, and taking care of the home and family.
Mrs. King is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Andrew Legg King; her brother, Paul David Putnam; and her sister, Virginia Lee Putnam Parenti.
Survivors include one sister, Joyce Ann Putnam Oakley of Charlotte, North Carolina; two daughters, Lynda King Hogsed (husband, James Hogsed) of Bowman and Andrea King Dobbs of Kennesaw; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services celebrating Mrs. King’s life will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 4 p.m. at Bowman United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Davis officiating. The family has chosen cremation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Dorothy King’s honor to Bowman United Methodist Church or to the organization of your choice.
