(NEW YORK) -- While there hasn't been a request made of him or his office, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Wednesday a preemptive step tied to a federal corruption investigation focused on two of his donors.
"I authorized yesterday a lawyer representing my 2013 campaign to reach out to the U.S. Attorney's office," de Blasio said on Wednesday.
Federal prosecutors and the FBI have been investigating two businessmen who donated to the mayor's inauguration and who allegedly showered police officers with gifts in exchange for favors.
To date, nobody has been charged but the New York Police Department has disciplined several high-ranking officials in connection with the ongoing probe.
