The officers under investigation have been placed on paid administrative leave, the department said, adding that it takes allegations of employee misconduct "seriously."

"The Oakland Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division initiated an internal investigation regarding allegations of sexual misconduct involving Oakland police officers," according to the statement.

The police department said it is a priority to ensure internal investigations are swift, fair and objective.

"The Oakland Police Department will not tolerate misconduct of any kind from its employees," the statement read. "The Oakland Police Department holds all employees accountable for their actions on and off duty."

The statement, which includes no details about the allegations, does not name the officers, and police have not responded to ABC News’ request for comment.
