(ATLANTA) -- A pilot is dead after a stunt plane crashed at an airshow in DeKalb County, Georgia, on Saturday afternoon.
A crowd of spectators were watching pilot Greg Connell attempt a stunt against a sunny blue sky at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport when his plane plummeted into the ground.
The pilot's death marked the first fatality in the air show's 30-year history.
Connell, who was a veteran pilot, had performed stunts at air shows around the country. He had reportedly described his plane as "custom built" and "highly capable."
Officials are investigating the cause of the crash.
