Police investigate explosive found in back yard of home

What appears to be an old military artillery shell was discovered in the back yard of a Lake Forest Drive residence on Sunday afternoon. After receiving a call from the homeowner, Elberton Police officers arrived on the scene and confirmed the shell, which had “Scovill Model 1807 M” etched on top of it, was indeed an old explosive device. According to a police report, contact was made with a disposal expert, who took the shell away from the residence.
