Elberton Police are seeking two suspects in the kidnapping and armed robbery of a local teenager reported to have occurred early Tuesday morning.
Eighteen-year-old Kyle Austin Stewart of Elberton told police he was walking along North Oliver Street in the vicinity of the railroad crossing around 12:30 a.m. when an automobile drove up, and two men forced him into the vehicle at gunpoint.

According to the police report, the men drove Stewart south on Georgia 77 and crossed into Oglethorpe County, where they robbed him of jewelry valued at $100, a cellphone valued at $80 and $60 in cash, then left him on the side of the road and drove off.

The victim walked to a nearby residence, where he called 9-1-1. An Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s deputy picked him up at the residence and drove him to the county line, where he met up with an Elbert County Sheriff’s deputy, who returned Stewart to the police department to make his report.

A police spokesman said the case was still under investigation Tuesday afternoon.
