Athens Technical College officially opened its new Mobile Welding Lab on Wednesday afternoon in a ceremony at the Elbert County Campus.

The Mobile Welding Lab, included as part of a $500,000 grant, features an eight station lab where participants can receive training for Technical Certificates of Credit in Gas Metal Arc Welding and industry certification preparation. Offering this career pathway through the mobile lab expands access and provides an opportunity for flexible scheduling. The lab eliminates the travel barrier that many students may face and eliminates travel time to training opportunities. The mobile lab allows Athens Technical College to work collaboratively with local employers to build upon skills and overcome labor shortages. With support from Dr. Andrea Daniel, President of the College, Stephanie Benson, Vice President for Adult Education, and Al McCall, Vice President for Economic Development, a partnership is planned in collaboration with Goodwill of North Georgia to provide mobile lab training at Whitworth Detention Center.

Athens Technical College President Dr. Andrea Daniel wanted to stress that the welding program and the new mobile unit were for men and women
