School board approves HVAC, flooring projects

The Elbert County Board of Education voted unanimously Monday to approve an amended contract for a heating and air replacement project at Elbert County Elementary School at a cost not to exceed $695,490.
School District Facilities Director Jon Jarvis said state grants will cover $418,000 of that cost, leaving the local district with a maximum cost of $277,490 for the project. The board also approved an expenditure of $225,000 for flooring replacement at Elbert County Middle School and $59,999 for an activity bus to be used by the high school and middle school.
Superintendent Chuck Bell’s certified personnel recommendations for the 2019-20 school year were also approved unanimously.
This is School Board Appreciation Week in Georgia, and Superintendent Bell took time to pay tribute to board Chair Ben Baker and Vice Chair Teresa Barnett for their 12 years of service each, along with board members Keith Harper for six years, Mike Turner for two years and Samantha Rucker for three months in office.
