Scotty McCreery hints at American Idol return

Jeff RayIt's been seven years since Scotty McCreery was crowned winner of American Idol. Now the singer's hinting  he'll soon return to the show that made him famous.

"Have you enjoyed watching the new season of @AmericanIdol so far? I have! Tune in this Sunday and you just might see a familiar face (hint hint!)," Scotty tweeted.

While the reality singing competition has been mum on Scotty's appearance, it wouldn't be the first time a country artist has joined the American Idol reboot this season. Recently, Sugarland performed "Stay" with Gabby Barrett, one of the remaining top 24 contestants on the show. Additionally, Luke Bryan serves as one of the show's judges alongside Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.

American Idol returns Sunday night at 8:00 ET/7:00 CT on ABC.
