Sheriff’s Office makes arrests in burglary, auto theft

Elbert County Sheriff Melvin Andrews has announced the arrests of two teenagers on felony theft charges in connection with the Friday night burglary of a Harmony Road residence.
Jonathan Linares, age 18, of a North Oliver Street, Elberton, address and Donell Wilkins, age 17, of a Grady Cleveland Road, Elberton, address, were charged Wednesday with one count each of first-degree burglary, six counts each of felony theft by taking and one count each of misdemeanor theft by taking.
Reported stolen in the burglary were two pistols, two shotguns, two rifles and a bore sight for the rifles. All but the pistols were recovered Tuesday, the sheriff said.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Linares and Wilkins were being held at the Elbert County Detention Center while awaiting bond to be set.
In a separate case, Sheriff Andrews also announced the arrest of 37-year-old Britney Hope Scarborough of a Snyder Avenue, Elberton, address on Monday in connection with the theft of a 2009 Honda Accord that was reported stolen September 17.
The vehicle has been recovered, and Scarborough, who was charged with felony theft by taking, was released from the Detention Center on $10,000 bond.
