Wesley Moss of the Georgia Forestry Commission has notified WSGC Radio that the department is receiving a number of calls in reference to smoke haze or the smell of smoke in the WSGC listening area. According to Moss, most of what people are experiencing is coming from the fires currently burning in and North Georgia.
The extreme dry weather has resulted in a number of wildfires in Georgia over the past several days. A majority of the smoke and smell people are experiencing in this area is due to those wildfire.
Moss said residents should still be vigilant when it comes to fresh smoke but at this time there is no immediate danger in Elbert County or the surrounding area.
