Suspect Apprehended in Disappearance of Florida Priest

St. Johns Sherriff's Office(AIKEN, S.C.) — Police apprehended a suspect early Thursday morning in the disappearance of a Florida Priest.

Steven James Murray was found in Aiken, S.C., by bloodhound tracking dogs, the SC Law Enforcement Division and Aiken County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Murray, 28, was identified by police Wednesday as the person of interest. St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Commander Chuck Mulligan said during a press conference that Rev. Robert knew Murray through his ministry.

Rev. Rene Robert, 71, was reported missing Tuesday to St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, after church officials said they were concerned about him after he missed a church function. Robert was last seen late Sunday afternoon by a neighbor.

His car was found abandoned near Aiken, South Carolina, police said.

Mulligan said Murray's identification as a person of interest came after Robert's car was used in a high-speed pursuit Tuesday evening, from St. Johns County to Duval County.

"Robert's disappearance is uncharacteristic and it is believed that foul play is suspected," the sheriff's office said.
