Third confirmed case in Elbert County

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in Elbert County now stands at three. Brooke McDowell, practice administrator of the Medical Center of Elberton, announced Tuesday morning that she was notified of a positive test result around 9:30 p.m. Monday. The patient, an Elbert County resident, underwent the test at the Medical Center last week, McDowell said, and the test kit was analyzed at Premier Medical Laboratory Services in Greenville, SC.

Also, Elbert County Emergency Management Agency Director Chuck Almond has repeated his advice to local residents to assume there are significantly more than three COVID-19 patients in Elbert County. Almond said testing availability is still “short-handed,” and results for tests can still take several days to be reported. Almond urges the public to continue and intensify stay-at-home and social distancing practices in the days ahead.
