Elbert County Sheriff Melvin Andrews has announced the arrests of three individuals in connection with a number of thefts reported in the county over the past two weeks.
Jeremy Frank Scarborough, age 23, of a Suttles Road, Elberton, address was apprehended Wednesday and has been charged with five counts of felony theft by taking and one count of felony entering an auto.
Scarborough is accused in connection with a golf cart stolen between June 8 and June 9 from a Middleton Church Road residence; a side-by-side utility vehicle stolen from another Middleton Church Road residence the same evening, along with a horse harness and weed trimmer; a 30-30 deer rifle stolen from a truck that was entered at the second Middleton Church Road residence; a golf cart and spray tank stolen between June 9 and 10 from a Jones Ferry Road residence and a golf cart stolen from a Calhoun Falls Highway residence on June 15. All of the items except for the deer rifle have been recovered, Sheriff Andrews said.
Additionally, 23-year-old Dontavious Jamarcus Strange of a Limo Road, Elberton, address is charged with one count of felony theft by receiving stolen property. Strange allegedly purchased the golf cart stolen from the Jones Ferry Road residence from Scarborough, and it was recovered near Strange’s residence.
A third suspect, 27-year-old Jacob Michael Gillham of a Ruckersville Road, Elberton, address is charged with being a party to a crime, felony theft by taking, also in connection with the Jones Ferry Road golf car theft.
Scarborough, Strange and Gillham are being held at the Elbert County Detention Center awaiting bond hearings. Sheriff Andrews said the investigation into these and other recent thefts is continuing.
