Two Firefighters in Critical Condition After Maryland Shooting, Suspect in Custody

iStock/Thinkstock(TEMPLE HILLS, Md.) -- Two Prince George's County firefighters and one civilian were shot Friday night in Temple Hills, Maryland.

A suspect is in custody, according to Prince George’s County Police.

The incident began when Prince George’s County Fire and Police were called by a concerned citizen at approximately 7:30 p.m. for a welfare check on an individual with a unspecified medical condition, officials said at a press conference Friday evening.

When firefighters arrived at the home in question, the resident was not responsive to the firefighters knocking on the door, so the decision was made to gain entry to the home.

Once entry was made to the home, the individual inside that they were checking on fired upon the two firefighters and the person that phoned in the welfare check, officials said. All three were injured.

The civilian’s injuries are not serious, but both firefighters are in critical condition, officials said. One was transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore; the other was taken to Southern Maryland Hospital Center.

The suspect is talking with police.
