news@wsgcradio.com – Today is the final day to apply for a 2024 homestead tax exemption in Georgia. If you file after this date, the exemption won’t be granted until the next calendar year (2025), and you’ll lose the exemption for this year. To ensure you receive the exemption, make sure to apply by the specified deadline with Elbert County tax officials. Remember, timely filing is crucial to benefit from property tax exemptions.
In Elbert County, seniors aged 62 can apply for a $10,000 school tax assessment reduction exemption and those 65 and older can apply for a $10,000 county tax assessment reduction exemption. These exemptions could lead to 2024 property tax savings of over $240 based on 2023 millage rates (24 Mil total).
According to Max Black, the $440 one-time property tax reduction provided by Gov. Kemp in 2023 will not apply this year. This means that property owners with total homestead property (Home, lot) valued at $100,000 or more could potentially be faced with paying a minimum of $440 more than last year.
The tax commissioner’s office is located at 45 Forest Avenue in Elberton. Office hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and the phone number is 706-283-2018.
